Red Bishop in line for Deccan Derby run

Pesi Shroff is confident that Red Bishop will put up a good show in the Derby in Hyderabad, India, next month after his gutsy display in the City Of Pearls last week.

Red Bishop went hoof to hoof with Prokofiev in the Hyderabad home straight a week ago and managed to wear down his rival in the dying strides of the thumping 1,600-metre contest to win the Group 3 Y Shanker Rao Memorial Deccan Colts Championship Stakes.

As a result of the run, Red Bishop’ rocketed from an official rating of 63 up to 75.

Shroff is now eyeing the Deccan Derby on October 5th, which is a step up in distance to 2,000 metres.

“The horse really battled on well to get up to the line, we were lucky,” Shroff told Kingsmoor.com.

“Red Bishop is back in Pune, all is well with him.

“He has lost a bit of weight for the run and the travel, but he is looking and feeding well.

“We are targeting the 5th of October, over a mile and a quarter – the Hyderabad Derby.

“Everything is good, and I think we’ll put up a good show.”

Shroff won the Derby in Hyderabad last season with the surprise outsider Arkadian.
